Silver Knight
Each of us will have a last battle. What will yours look like?
Mercenaries and brigands surrounded the keep As lord of the castle roused from his sleep The siege was closing as wolves against sheep Name-stealers now culling the cattle “Fetch my armor and bring me my sword” Setting aside fear, doubt and anger ignored The brave knight in conquest found his reward Not in lands nor possessions nor chattel The heroic and bold Silver Knight stood Underneath the arch of the drawbridge hood Alone against scores of enemies he could Hear their mocking din and prattle Servants and wards, the denizens of his home Terrified and huddled in their courtyard of stone Escape though the tunnels last hope alone As the noble knight leaped to his saddle A few minutes was all he needed to buy Praising God as he looked to the darkening sky He donned his helmet and let out a cry Spurring his horse through the gate with a rattle Focused he charged and lowered his lance Crashing through enemies in terrific advance Decapitating and hacking in a violent dance Metal and flesh mixing into a brattle Cutting down endless foes, murderers rife In his side suddenly felt a scoundrel’s knife Blessed in this foray to offer his only life In this holy and glorious battle
